Document Indexer Update
The Update Document Index window is used to set up the Document Index feature in Time Matters. In Area 3 of the window it contains a list of file extensions of files that the Indexer will ignore. These are files that you do not need to search.
An earlier tip, here, contains a recommended list of file extensions to add to the default list that ships with Time Matters. Here is our new recommended list containing some additions:
;*.SV;*.ZIP;*.DID;*.DDD;*.PPP;*.TPS;*.TFX;*.AVI;*PDD;*ABT;*.PNG;*.PDB;*.CSV;*.MAX
In order to make room to insert these extensions, delete the following from the existing list: ;DRVSPACE.*
That is a MS Windows file that you are very unlikely to have in your document folders.
We suggest that you select the above line of extensions with the mouse, then use Ctrl-C to copy it to the Windows Clipboard. Switch to the Update Document Index window in Time Matters and paste this line of file extensions into Area 3, Exclude These File Types.
If you followed our earlier tip, you should copy and paste just these new additions:
;*.PNG;*.PDB;*.CSV;*.MAX
Here is what the window looks like if you followed our earlier tip. You can see ;DRVSPACE.* at the end of the first line, wrapping to the second line. Delete it from the list. When adding an additional line of file extensions, be sure to select the semicolon that begins the line. Copy the line, then click the mouse pointer just after the last file extension that appears in the window. Paste the line using Ctrl-V.
You may want to use fewer or more file extensions depending on your searching needs. The .PNG and .MAX file extensions are for graphics file formats. The .CSV is a data format (comma-separated values) often used for imports and exports that MS Excel handles easily. The .PDB is used for Palm database files and some other obscure database files.
If you make any change in the Update Document Index window, you need to reindex your complete collection of documents. The Indexer will prompt you to reindex the collection after you press OK. Since the Indexer ties up Time Matters on your computer, you may want to press No and then set up the Scheduler. Press the Schedule button on the Document Index Manager window.
